Caribbean nations optimistic about outcome of UN climate change conference

The 20th session of the Conference of the Parties and the 10th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol is taking place from 1 to 12 December in Lima, Peru.

The annual world climate change talks opened [in Lima, Peru] on Monday with Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries cautiously optimistic that developed countries will commit to the type of financing that poor, vulnerable nations like theirs need to adapt to climate change.

The summit brings together representatives from 194 countries to negotiate over the next 12 days the legally binding text that will become next year’s Paris Protocol.
