Dominica’s PM urges residents to join the clean up

The Douglas-Charles Airport runway is filled with debris from the storm. It appears that at least one airplane was damaged.

Dominica’s Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit has called on Dominicans to make today ‘clean up day’.

“I am asking all residents to come out to help clean the streets, clear ravines and public buildings today,” the Prime Minister said in a post on his Face Book  page this morning.

Heavy rainfall  from the devastating passage of Tropical Storm Erica, Thursday, left debris strewn across roads, yards and parks. It also cased widespread damage to the country’s infrastructure, with several roads and bridges washed away.

CDEMA,   the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency has activated the Regional Response Mechanism (RRM). Response teams for reconnaissance, search and rescue and medical evacuation are expected to be deployed this morning.
