It’s Election Day in BVI

The people of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) vote in general elections today, Monday 8 June 2015.

Four parties are vying for the 13 seats at stake. The incumbent National Democratic Party (NDP) and the main opposition Virgin Islands Party (VIP) are both fielding full slates. The Peoples Progressive Coalition (PPC) and the Peoples Empowerment Party (PEP) are having their first outing with smaller slates.

Voters will elect nine “local” or constituency representatives and four “at large” or territorial representatives. Just over 13 thousand persons are registered to vote.

Polls opened at 6:00 this morning and will close at 6:00 p.m.  Results will be announced from about  7:30 p.m.
