(Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre Press Release) – The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) in collaboration with the Government of Belize is carrying out a national training exercise under the banner “Coastal Zone, Sea Level Rise, and Related Processes.”

The exercise will run from February 11-14, 2019, and is aimed at improving Belize’s technical capacity and preparedness in Climate Change. It is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment, Sustainable Development and Immigration, through the “Fourth National Communication and First Biennial Update Report Project” being implemented by the National Climate Change Office (NCCO).

This training was organised in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Cuban Third National Communication Project, the Meteorological Institute of Cuba (INSMET), the Cuban Institute of Marine Sciences and the CCCCC and is being facilitated by Dr. Marcelino Hernández Gonzalez from Cuba. It is being hosted at the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute’s Conference Room in Belize City.

The purpose of the workshop is to build the capacity of national technical experts on how to use statistical data, measurements and modelling methods to assess sea level variations and sea level rise influence on coastal ecosystems.

This training will help to build Belize’s local capacity to carry out vulnerability and capacity assessments by integrating vulnerabilities into adaptation actions and is part of a series of trainings that have been delivered in Belize with the goal of building Belize’s resilience to climate change.
