APNU/AFC coalition official winner of Guyana’s election: GECOM

The coalition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and Alliance for Change (AFC) was officially declared the winner of Guyana’s May 11 2015 general elections at a press conference hosted by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Saturday afternoon.

GECOM, in its final declaration of results, said the APNU and AFC coalition got 207,200 votes to 202, 694 for the outgoing Peoples Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).  APNU/AFC will have 33 seats in parliament and the PPP/C 32.

GECOM declared the coalition’s Presidential candidate, retired Brigadier David Granger the duly elected President and announced he will be immediately sworn in at a ceremony at the Parliament building in Georgetown.
