Milan, Italy – Guyana, ‘South America Undiscovered’ has made quite an impression on the thousands of visitors to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 in Milan, Italy, and many have expressed genuine interest in visiting the ‘off the beaten path’ destination.

Guyana is one of eight CARICOM countries participating  in Expo Milano 2015, alongside Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Suriname; the country’s participation  was a collaborative effort between the Guyana Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism .

According to Guyana’s National Coordinator, Ms. Chevon Lim and country officer, Mr. Kamrul Baksh, the country’s presence in Italy allows for more targeted and direct interventions, in the areas of tourism, trade and investment promotion.

During the six months of the exposition, facets of Guyana’s tourism product will be marketed aggressively, while the country representatives will use the myriad of available opportunities to tap into the European market with respect to trade and investment.

”Our presence at Expo Milano 2015 cannot be understated. It is an excellent platform to showcase our country in all aspects to a wide cross-section of the European market. A large portion of our annual budget goes towards marketing in Europe, and we are eager to see the impact of our presence here. We have also made quite an impact with the selection of manufactured local products on display,” Mrs. Lim revealed.

Several Guyanese companies also partnered with the Government of Guyana to participate in Expo Milano by providing samples of their products to be showcased and distributed.

”We are making quite an impression in Milan; visitors are captivated by the sheer beauty of Guyana, they are excited by our tourism offerings and even more excited to see the wide array of products manufactured in Guyana. As expected, Guyana’s Rum Display continues to create quite a stir and we expect greater turnout and interest over the next few months,” Guyana’s National Coordinator related.

Expo Milan 2015 opened on May 1 and runs until 31 October, 2015, under the theme ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’.  Expo Milano has attracted participants from more than 130 countries, as well as International Organisations and civil society.
